Norsk-latvisk samarbeid for å bedre diabetesomsorg

70 barn får årlig diabetes type 1. i Latvia. Alle må gjennom en 5 dagers opplæring av en diabetessykepleier ved barnesykehuset i Riga. Dette er landets eneste diabetessykepleier. Et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom Diabetesforbundet og den latviske Diabetesføderasjonen under NGO-programmet sikter på å endre denne situasjonen.

On November 3, 2014 Society Integration Foundation announced open call for proposals under "NGO Project Measure" of the EEA Grants 2009-2014 programme "NGO Fund" in Latvia. This was the third open call of micro projects and the last one in the program.

Support for EuroPride Riga 2015

18 March the Norwegian Helsinki Committee sent a letter to the Latvian Prime Minister Mrs. Laimdota Straujuma, expressing our concern that the Latvian organisation Association Antiglobālisti attempt to use legal loopholes to prevent EuroPride from taking place in Riga in 2015. The loophole is of an administrative nature.

Checkpoint – the first place offering consultations and disease testing in Latvia, celebrates its one year anniversary

On 5th March, 2015 Checkpoint – the first place offering consultations and testing in Latvia for men having sexual relationship with other men, celebrates its first year of foundation. The aim of the Checkpoint is to increase the number of men who regularly undergo medical examinations and start immediate treatment, if necessary, thus reducing the number of undiscovered or late detected cases of disease.

“Not to spend, but invest…” The Norwegian and EEA grants ensure important progress in research of civil society and create social connections in Latvia

In January, 2013, Civic Alliance – Latvia, Latvia’s largest umbrella organization started implementation of a pre-defined project “Improvement of Support and Monitoring System for Sustainable Development of Civic Society in Latvia” in the program “NGO Fund," which is funded by the EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The overall goal of the project is to strengthen sustainable development of civic society in Latvia. The goal of the program "NGO Fund" is to strengthen civic development of society and to strengthen support to social justice, democracy and sustainable development.

Added impact through international cooperation

"You need to see how another life is possible in order to know what to strive for," concluded one participant after a study trip to Norway for people with intellectual disabilities to see how Norwegians with intellectual disabilities live, work and are integrated in civil, social and political processes. This project and others were presented in Riga during a seminar dedicated to bilateral cooperation.
