Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will strengthen their support to civil society in Central and Southern Europe through the EEA and Norway Grants 2009-14. An online consultation exercise on the funding is launched today at an open briefing in Brussels.
Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and the EU today signed the agreements for the EEA and Norway Grants 2009-14, after the EU member states agreed on the final distribution for the beneficiary countries. €1.79 billion will be made available to projects that contribute to social and economic development in 15 EU member states in Central and Southern Europe.
Without active work from NGOs it is impossible to build a strong civil society. That was the conclusion of the debate among more than 150 representatives from different NGOs who attended the Polish-Norwegian forum for civil society on 16 June 2010, organized by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Warsaw.
