The €1.32 million NGO Fund in Cyprus will be launched later this year. The core areas of support are human rights, racisim, anti-discrimination, social inequalities, gender equality and children and youth. A stakeholder consultation meeting on the NGO Fund in Cyprus took place in Nicosia on 3 April 2013. The huge turnout indicates a great interest in the NGO Fund. The €1,3 million fund for civil society is to be launched in a few months. NGOs were invited to provide their opinion on the potential areas of support through a questionnaire and during the meeting. Through the EEA grants, Norway is contributing to increased dialogue between the peoples of the divided island of Cyprus. 25 % of the funding that lasts until 2014 is earmarked for the civil society. The agreement was signed in Nicosia this afternoon.
The largest share of funding will be allocated to support for civil society. An NGO fund worth €1.3 million is to be established under the EEA Grants, of which almost one-third is earmarked for bi-communal projects to promote dialogue and cooperation between the two communities in Cyprus.
